A new Gallup Poll finds that most Americans are identifying themselves as "pro-life" for the first time since the firm starting asking the question in 1995. Fifty-one percent of Americans now call themselves "pro-life" on abortion, compared with 42 percent who consider themselves "pro-choice."
That's a major change from a year ago, when 50 percent of Americans called themselves pro-choice and 44 percent said they were pro-life. more...

Dieu le Roy,
Father Jenkins will most likely have his way in disobediance to Church teaching, and will award Obama with his figurative crown of martyrdom. What Would Luther Do?
I have thought long and hard about this, and I have come up with an anology. As a former Marine, I have attended many awards ceremonies, most of the men (and later women)being awarded rightfully deserved their medals. I have been decorated myself. Once in a while someone was decorated who did not deserve to be. When those times happened, the other men decorated have had their decoration cheapened.
Obama's doctorate reads...
The University of Notre Dame Confers the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa, on the 44th president of the United States, whose historic election opened a new era of hope in a country long divided by its history of slavery and racism. A community organizer who honed his advocacy for the poor, the marginalized and the worker in the streets of Chicago, he now organizes a larger community, bringing to the world stage a renewed American dedication to diplomacy and dialogue with all nations and religions committed to human rights and the global common good. Through his willingness to engage with those who disagree with him and encourage people of faith to bring their beliefs to the public debate, he is inspiring this nation to heal its divisions of religion, culture, race and politics in the audacious hope for a brighter tomorrow. On Barack H. Obama, Washington, District of Columbia"
I am at odds with the very last sentence, specifically...
...he is inspiring this nation to heal its divisions of religion, culture, race and politics in the audacious hope for a brighter tomorrow.
Is he really?, or does he just have those intentions? Is it just for show? By his very presence at Notre Dame he is doing the very opposite. In fact he is dividing Catholics, the Pro-Abort's and the Pro-Life (actually the Pro-Aborts are not Catholic). Did he not tell the Europeans that we are not a Christian country. We are living in the era of the Obama show, where his rockstar antics and constant campaigning are doing nothing to help the Culture. Race, I can see, he is the first black American president(as we are constantly being reminded), just as Washington was the first white president. The culture difference between Washington and Obama is Washington just wanted to be an American. Lastly, Politics. Liberals are not uniters they are dividers. They live but dividing, the so called HAVES, and have nots, the people who own Homes and the people living in a trailer, The people who own SUVs and the people who drive economical green cars.
No, Mr. Obama you don't deserve an award from any Catholic university. It cheapen those awards that have gone before you.
Joseph has posted this today.
Fr. James Schall, S.J. On Obama, Notre Dame And Real Catholic Rights
So when President Obama goes to Notre Dame this week, we should be sure what is at issue. He goes there for one reason, namely, in this symbolic place, to convince the vast majority of Catholics that his operative definition of “human rights,” not that of the Church, is the correct one.
“Rights” mean precisely what the government defines them to mean. The president is the government.
“Liberty,” in this context, means this: The freedom to obey these laws that embody these “rights” that governments alone establish, whatever they are.
The American Founders would be astonished that our great nation has come to this pass.

Congressman: 'Deviancy' protected by 'hate crimes'
Warns 'anything you imagine' coming under 'Pedophile Protection Act'
Posted: May 13, 2009

A congressman from Iowa says he fought the so-called "Hate Crimes" bill as it moved through the U.S. House, because it essentially will provide a level of protection for sexual deviancy in the United States that is not afforded any other behavior.
Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, was interviewed today by WND columnist Janet Porter, who also heads the Faith2Action Christian ministry.
"Americans need to know what's going on here in Washington," he said, "when we get these radical positions … the public needs to know."
He said the bill provides protection for those with "sexual orientation" issues but then doesn't define the terms. So he said it's apparent that all of the 547 'philias' – or as he described them "deviancies" – would be protected under the law.
"Anything you can imagine, no matter how revolting it might be," King said. More...

House agrees to muzzle pastors with 'hate crimes' plan
'This is first time protected status given to whatever sexual orientation one has'
© 2009 WorldNetDaily
The U.S. House today approved a federal "hate crimes" bill that would provide special protections to homosexuals but leave Christian ministers open to prosecution should their teachings be linked to any subsequent offense, by anyone, against a "gay."
The vote, 249-175, came despite intense from Republicans who argued the measure would create a privileged class.
Bishop Harry Jackson Jr. of the High Impact Leadership Coalition also condemned the action, offering a warning about the nation's future.
Jackson said the action puts "sexual orientation" in a specially protected class under federal law.
"Based on history, it really isn't something that needs to be protected," he said. "There's a problem that this is going to mark the first time that a protected class status is given to … whatever sexual orientation one has."
He said the experience in other countries has led to prosecution of Christians. In Sweden, for example, a minister was sentenced to 30 days in jail for preaching from Leviticus. more...

Those Bus Ads
The fool hath said in his heart, "There is no God," according to the Psalmist; or as an advertising standards council in Britain ruled, the line should read, "There's probably no God," when it appears on the sides of transit buses. Ottawa's city council voted last week to make OC Transpo the latest carrier of this message, which is already appearing on buses in other Canadian cities, and across former Christendom.
I seldom agree with advertising standards councils, and there is no reason why I should make an exception here. While the word "probably" improves the ad, rhetorically, by making it seem a little more open-minded, it also adds two new layers of deceit.
First, the sponsors don't think God "probably" doesn't exist, they have actually bet that He doesn't. And good on them for that: for I admire people who will put their money where their mouth is, at least some of the time. If disbelief in God will take them to Hell, they will ride into Hell triumphantly -- and I would guess on something like OC Transpo.
But second, the laws of probability cannot help you make a decision about the existence of God. They just don't apply to metaphysical questions. You may use the math (usually rather crudely) to determine the odds against various things happening in nature -- for instance, to calculate the insuperable odds against life randomly evolving on earth, or intelligent life evolving from sponges. But supernature is an odds-free zone. This is a point on which intelligent atheists and believers ought to be able to agree.
Advertising is a vexing business. It attracts all kinds of smart and talented people, because the money is usually fairly good, and smart people often prefer more money to less. The purpose of advertising -- which you might never guess from reading literature from an advertising council -- is to sell things. One might even say advertising is intrinsically biased.
Having established that, however, we must then consider the effects of advertising. Not all of it works. Sometimes it is counter-productive. And while I enjoy a brilliant advertisement for almost anything, I even more enjoy spotting an advertisement that is "too brilliant by half."
In my own humble yet authoritative opinion, an absolutely overt advertisement for atheism is a Godsend, but not for the atheists. How could this be? To explain, I must (hardly for the first time) invoke Warren's Iron Law of Paradox, which holds, among other things, that the more clearly you state the case for a false proposition, the better you undermine it.
The case here is against belief in God. But in order to state your case, you must mention Him. From the moment you do that, you are fighting a rearguard action. You have just made people think about God. Your case would work better if they weren't thinking about Him.
The Iron Law of Paradox has many dimensions, and it seems to me there are quite a few on which this bus ad is scoring an "own goal," in the course of sticking a poker in the face of the religious. I want to focus exclusively on the sharp end, however, and not waste space on all the rusted metal behind it. So let me just say that almost everything else the advertising industry produces is more effective against "God belief" than this pointy little bus ad.
The secret of advertising, in a largely post-Christian society, is to use a semblance of the theological virtues against the actual cardinal virtues. That is to say, the advertising propagandist must try to convince the prospective purchaser of mass-market goods that he may enjoy a mild parody of faith ("it's the real thing"), hope ("you can lose 10 kilos"), and charity ("make them smile"), if he will only abandon the sales resistance that comes from prudence, justice, temperance and courage.
Perhaps this idea will be plainer if I express it negatively. The routine advertising strategy is to flog the attractiveness of the deadly sins: avarice, lust, gluttony, vainglory, and so forth. It is to tell the target audience, "stop worrying and enjoy your life."
This is a much more effective atheist strategy, because it leaves God entirely out of the equation. Indeed, the mass-market punter is being subtly persuaded to forget about God, Who, we can only assume, must contribute to sales resistance by His general opposition to sin.
Let us make this argument plainer still. The average modern urban dweller driving to and from work (as opposed to those trapped inside the buses, who don't get to stare at the ad in traffic jams), is not an atheist, nor a Christian, nor anything in between. He is rarely a person who devotes much thought to God. He is more often a person who has subconsciously trained himself -- or been subconsciously trained by things like advertising -- to avoid this subject entirely. The poor, harassed creature may only have time to think in traffic jams.
And now, thanks to the Freethought Association of Canada, he can think about God.

"If My requests are granted ... there will be peace"
Our Lady of Fatima explained to the children that war is a punishment for sin and warned that God would further castigate the world for its disobedience to His Will by means of war, hunger and the persecution of the Church, the Holy Father and the Catholic Faithful. God's Mother prophesied that Russia would be God's chosen "instrument of chastisement," spreading the "errors" of atheism and materialism across the earth, fomenting wars, annihilating nations and persecuting the Faithful everywhere.
"If My requests are not granted, Russia will spread its errors throughout the world, raising up wars and persecutions against the Church. The good will be martryed, the Holy Father will suffer much and various nations will be annihilated."
In all Her appearances at Fatima, the Blessed Mother repeatedly emphasized the necessity of praying the Rosary daily, of wearing the Brown Scapular of Mount Carmel and of performing acts of reparation and sacrifice. To prevent the terrible chastisement at the hands of Russia and to convert "that poor nation", Our Lady requested the solemn public Consecration of Russia to Her Immaculate Heart by the Pope and all the Catholic bishops of the world. She also asked that the Faithful practice a new devotion of reparation on the first Saturday of five consecutive months ("the Five First Saturdays")
The heart of Our Lady's Message to the world is contained in what has come to be called the "Secret" which She confided to the three child seers in July 1917. The Secret actually consists of three parts, the first two of which have been publicly revealed. The first part of the Secret was a horrifying vision of hell "where the souls of poor sinners go" and contained an urgent plea from Our Lady for acts of prayer and sacrifice to save souls. The second part of the Secret specifically prophesied the outbreak of World War II and contained the Mother of God's solemn request for the Consecration of Russia as a condition for world peace. It also predicted the inevitable triumph of Her Immaculate Heart following Russia's consecration and the conversion "of that poor nation" to the Catholic Faith.
The last part of the Secret (often called the "Third Secret") has not yet been made public, but was written down by Lucy Dos Santos, the last living Fatima seer, in 1944 and has been in the possession of the Holy See since 1957. Most informed sources speculate that this portion of the Secret concerns chaos in the Catholic Church, predicting widespread apostasy and a loss of faith beginning in the seventh decade of the 20th Century.

What can I add that is not already said?

My ancestor Etienne arrived in Ville Ste. Marie from Epiney, Champagne, France around 1645 only two years into the long reign of the Louis XIV, known as the Sun King. Already there were Jesuit missionaries teaching the Indians the gospel of Christ and bringing them into the Catholic fold. Travelling singly or in small groups they travelled the width and breath of what would become Canada and the United States preaching the faith, building missions, learning the language of the various tribes, in short bring a bit of civilization to an inhospitable place. Many of these missions have, as in California, become cities in there own time. Niles, Michigan is one such place. Joseph Frome who writes a blog aptly called Good Jesuit, Bad Jesuit, has written a piece on the Jesuit Mission at Ft St. Joseph.
...In the 1680s, Jesuits were granted a tract of land near Niles for their mission. In 1691, a post was established for what proved to be a multi-ethnic community. "There were not only French there," Nassaney said, "but also native peoples living at the fort. We've been able to demonstrate this archaeologically, and the documents also tell us this. At the fort in the early part of the 18th century, there was a commandant, a blacksmith, an interpreter, eight to 10 soldiers (2), there were about 15 fur traders and their wives. They had trouble attracting French women to the frontier back then, so the voyageurs often married native women(3). One of the things we have is a list of marriages and baptisms that the priests performed..." More...

(3)To counter this King louis XIV sent a group of 770 women to the new world with a dowery of 50 livres, a number of livestock and bedding to facilitate their setlement. These women were mostly orphans( not prostitutes) who were brought up at the general Hospital in Paris. Destitute, and without a dower they faced a life of hardship in France. Often called the King's Daughters, filles du Roi – or filles à la cassette , refering to the small box in which each carried their dowry, they made a welcome addition to New France, and played an imprtant part in the civilization of Canada. An interesting note is the chubbier ones where most often the women who married first. I make no comment on that.

Former Illinois U.S. Senate candidate Alan Keyes and 21 other protesters were arrested this morning when they refused to leave the Notre Dame campus during a protest of President Obama's upcoming commencement address there, authorities said.
Keyes and the others were arrested on trespassing charges when they refused to leave campus, a university spokesman said. All 22 were being held in the St. Joseph County Jail on misdemeanor criminal trespass charges, in lieu of $250 bond each, said St. Joseph County Sheriff's Sgt. Bill Redman.
Keyes was among a group of 26 protesters, some of them pushing baby carriages with dolls covered in fake blood, who entered the campus and were greeted by Notre Dame police, said university spokesman Dennis Brown.
The protesters had "publicized their intentions in advance," and were handed notices advising them that university policy bans protests unless they are organized by student groups and approved in advance, Brown said. more...
One would think that having drawn all the ill will it could possibly hold, Notre Dame would lighten up. It seems this is not the case. Now the preeminent Catholic University in America, has had 26 Anti-Abortion protesters arrested. My question is simply this, whose side are you on Notre Dame, the Catholic Church, or the side of the secular godless? This is a patently stupid move. The university makes a lot of those lately.

"I exercised my freedom of speech and I was punished for doing so," an emotional Prejean said at a news conference. "This should not happen in America. It undermines the constitutional rights for which my grandfather fought for (in World War Two).
"I believe no one should be silenced if they are speaking from their heart. I am a model. I am a Christian," she said, adding that she forgave everyone who had attacked her for her anti-gay marriage opinions.
Her views, and the strident reaction to them, came in the midst of heated nationwide debates over same-sex weddings which have recently been legalized in five U.S. states but banned in a California referendum in November.
The truth is Freedom of Speech, guaranteed by the first amendment, is commonly seen as by the left as their right and as long as one agrees with them it is exersized correctly, otherwise it is labelled hate. The first amendment was written to protect speech which advisarial, not the wishy washy politically correct drivel which comes from Hollywood.

Irish student hoaxes world's media with florid but phony quote from dead French composer
DUBLIN (AP) -- When Dublin university student Shane Fitzgerald posted a poetic but phony quote on Wikipedia, he was testing how our globalized, increasingly Internet-dependent media was upholding accuracy and accountability in an age of instant news.
His report card: Wikipedia passed. Journalism flunked.
The sociology major's obituary-friendly quote -- which he added to the Wikipedia page of Maurice Jarre hours after the French composer's death March 28 -- flew straight on to dozens of U.S. blogs and newspaper Web sites in Britain, Australia and India. They used the fabricated material, Fitzgerald said, even though administrators at the free online encyclopedia twice caught the quote's lack of attribution and removed it.
A full month went by and nobody noticed the editorial fraud. So Fitzgerald told several media outlets they'd swallowed his baloney whole.
"I was really shocked at the results from the experiment," Fitzgerald, 22, said Monday in an interview a week after one newspaper at fault, The Guardian of Britain, became the first to admit its obituarist lifted material straight from Wikipedia. more..
Two Catholic women went through ordination ceremonies, one a "deacon," the other as a "priest" in a synagogue in Philadelphia and were therefore immediately excommunicated, according to Philly.com:
Mary Schoettly, 66, of Sussex County, N.J., was ordained a priest(1). Chava Redonnet, 51, of Rochester, N.Y., became a deacon(2).
About 200 attended, (Rabbi) Holtzman said. "It was really beautiful," she said.
A beautiful excommunication? These kinds of events should be a great source of sadness to the faithful as an excommunication always is.
Actually the writer of the above article can not possibly be Catholic. Why do some in our Church and out of it see becomeng a priest as a right?

Enough of that, Elena-Maria published a short article in her blog Tea at Trianon several years ago, (Can it be that long ago?) which I briefly here...
...Mme. Récamier represents better than any woman of her time the peculiar talents that distinguished the leaders of some of the most famous salons. She had tact, grace, intelligence, appreciation, and the gift of inspiring others. The cleverest men and women of the age were to be met in her drawing room. One found there genius, beauty, esprit, elegance, courtesy, and the brilliant conversation which is the Gallic heritage.
Madame Récamier would feed her guests well, then preside over the discussions while reclining on a sofa, usually wrapped in a yellow shawl. In her youth during Napoleon's reign, she became famous for the "shawl dance" which she would perform with her hair trailing down, and she had many admirers. For Juliette Récamier (1777-1849) was one of the greatest beauties of the era, and yet she also had a reputation for virtue. Many nobles and princes tried to seduce her but without success; she remained faithful to her husband... more...

Rabbi: Pope visit contradicts Judaism
As Israel prepares for Benedict XVI's historic visit, head of SOS Israel believes 'rabbis must not meet with the pope because the Catholic Church tortured and murdered Jews and helped the Nazis annihilate the Jewish people'
Pope Benedict XVI will arrive in Israel on Monday after a three-day tour of Jordan, followed by thousands of Christian pilgrims. As the preparations for the historical visit are being completed across the country, it appears that there are some who are not so happy about the visit.
"The Catholic Church tortured and helped the Nazi oppressor annihilate the Jewish people. Now the head of this church, the pope, is coming to Israel," Rabbi Shalom Dov Wolpe, chairman of SOS Israel, told Ynet on Saturday evening.
On Saturday the pope said that his visit to the Middle East was a reminder of the "inseparable bond" between the Catholic Church and the Jewish people. He spoke from Mount Nebo, the hill overlooking the Jordan valley from where the Bible says Moses saw the Promised Land.
He later visited the biggest mosque in Amman and said that it is often "ideological manipulation of religion sometimes for political ends that is the real catalyst for tension and division and at times even violence in society."
Benedict told the audience of religious leaders and government officials assembled at the white limestone King Hussein mosque that Muslims and Christians must strive to be seen as faithful worshippers of God "because of the burden of our common history" that has often been marked by misunderstanding.
"The man who was a member of the Hitler youth when he was young is here to receive the inheritance of those murdered – the holy Jewish sites," said Rabbi Wolpe. "The pope has come to pray at sites of religious importance for Christianity, and this contradicts our religion. He can be provided with all the services given to gentiles who come to Israel, but he must not be honored as the representative of the Christian religion.
"If he wishes to come here on a private visit – then by all means. No one is trying to stop his visit, but it's unthinkable that rabbis will meet with him."
Arabs protest visit as well
There are also those among Israel's Arabs who do not welcome the pope's visit. Two Arab residents of northern Israel were arrested Saturday afternoon in the Old City of Jerusalem in possession of hundreds of leaflets condemning Benedict's visit and calling for a boycott. The two were taken in for questioning.
Some 80,000 members of the security forces will guard the pope during his visit. 'Operation White Cloak' will begin Monday and end Friday. An information center for the public can be reached at 1700-502-030. Updates on the pope's visit will also be provided on the Israel Police's website: www.police.gov.il.
On Tuesday, the pope is expected to tour Jerusalem and visit the Temple Mount, the Western Wall, the Hechal Shlomo Jewish Heritage Center and the Latin Patriarchy. On Thursday he will fly to northern Israel, where he will hold a mass on the Mount of the Precipice and visit the Church of the Annunciation. He is also scheduled to visit Bethlehem.
The Associated Press contributed to this report
Rabbi, everyone in Nazi Germany wore a uniform with a swastika on it, except the jews. All the youth were forced into the Hitler youth. Your revisionist history is proclaimed for all when you say, "The Catholic Church tortured and helped the Nazi oppressor annihilate the Jewish people. Now the head of this church, the pope, is coming to Israel..."
This is the kind of vitriol which continues the hatred in the middle east.
